Art – A good 2-3 Art activity that will be in your Create Crate one day is to make a comic strip using friends or family members as the characters. We have big paper with frames for your child’s art. We also have speech bubble stickers. (Language Arts crossover!)

Art Journal – Children are encouraged to draw/write every day. Drawing or writing daily has been shown to be a very healthy activity. Some of the pages have ideas about what to draw or write. There are also places for independent self-expression.

Language Arts – For 2-3 kids Language Arts is still about phonics and word study. We start moving into a bit of reading comprehension. Create Crate will provide short stories for your to read and comprehend. There are some tips and tricks to improve this skill. These are frequently crossover activities. Kids may be reading and comprehending a story about a literary author or a scientist and just like that, they’ll learn something!

Another type of LA activity that crosses multiple levels would be to make a treasure map for a family member to find a treasure your child has hidden. The act of giving you hints as to where the treasure is a great language skill! Kids at this level would be expected to make more complex hints than the K-1 kids.
STEM, of course, stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. When you think about it STEM is a pretty broad category. Gathering different types of leaves and bringing them home for a leaf Rubbing activity is a STEM activity (with an Art crossover.)

Another favorite is to make a parachute for a toy (the hard, plastic kind.) There is some science in the way the parachute will fall.

Life Skills may seem a little unexpected. It is many times overlooked.
Baking cookies with a parent may be the first thing that comes to mind (which is a great activity!), but other skills such as being able to resolve conflict are skills that will be used every day of your child’s future (Well, maybe not every day.) A very practical activity for all the levels is closet cleaning – making it more fun (You’re welcome!).

The fact that P.E. is included in Create Crate means that we are being very intentional about physical activity. It is an easy thing to skip. We have a great broom hockey game! There is also a project of cutting away part of a gallon milk jug. It makes a great ball catcher! As you can see there will be some days that they will not know they are exercising.
